So How'd I Get So Sick?

So how'd I get so sick?

I have to do some guesswork here, but guesswork and CFS seem to go together and I am used to that (sort of).

Things had been pretty heavy for some years before I got knocked over.

Al had had a couple of work-related accidents within a few years of each other, neither of which ever really healed up properly. He developed a nice case of fibromyalgia in the aftermath which still affects his every moment about two decades later.

He was able to get Compensation after the second accident. They rejected him after the first one. And we both thought I should be home with all the kids -- idealistic, I know but we thought it was the right choice at the time. So pickin's were pretty slim for a very long time.

I had five kids in eight years, which has a way of being draining to the body, mind and soul. :-) They're worth it, mind, but they don't come cheap.

We lived next door to a big farming business, with their pesticides and whatever chemicals mixing with our air over at our house. And we had a mold problem, had had flooding under the house creating more damp and more mold, as well as a furnace from which, we later realized, oil fumes were likely coming into the house.

I'd had problems with tendinitis in both arms and shoulders off and on (probably the beginning of my physical breakdown though I didn't know it at the time). I was put on a drug called Voltaren by my doctor which apparently many people use successfully. But it gave me pain deep in my gut after awhile and I was on it for many months at a time, first for eight months, later for five more months.

I went off the pills but the pain stayed with me for ... well, till I went low-carb. So, from 1991 till 2002.

I have come to realize that I have food sensitivities that were a bad mix with a tiny food budget and the low-fat craze we'd all sucked in for many years. This regular ingestion of foods that were bad for me, for so many years, took a toll. Not being actually nourished and slowly poisoning myself into the bargain.

And then, at some pivotal point of low immune function due to all the above factors, I caught a cold. And ... you know the rest.

As best I can put it in a nutshell, this is what did me in.
