Jesse's Sleep is Messed Up
-
Jesse doesn't sleep like normal people.
His sleep is whacked. Mind you, I've discovered there is a sort of pattern to it.
He'll be up all night, then through the next day and the next night, then sleep from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then he's up that night, and might have a nap the next afternoon from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. And then, he's up that night all night, and so the cycle goes.
We have tried a number of things. Melatonin helped a bit, for a few days, then stopped. Valerian did nothing for him, although it helped his dad when his sleep was dysregulated for some time. Rescue Remedy drops also did nothing for Jesse, though again they helped his father. So we see, once again, that what works for one person, may not work for another, even though their symptoms may be similar.
I tried getting Jess up at the same time every day, first tried late morning, then tried early afternoon, but that just made him more exhausted. So after many months of this, I surrendered to the facts of the situation and decided that any sleep was a good sleep.
I don't care what time he goes to sleep or what time he gets up. I am only interested in how much sleep he gets (sometimes 12 - 14 hrs, which thrills me) and whether he looks half-dead or alive. The longer we are doing it this way, the more often he looks alive.
