There is a good deal of friction between different food camps.
Each one in its heart of hearts believes it has the real handle on how people should eat.
Now, me, I get very, very sick if I eat "healthy" grains, and complex carbohydrates are no better for me than the simple ones.
I need meat and alot of it. Love vegetables. And I thrive on butter and olive oil and fish oil. That's just the way it is.
I know it's not popular with half the food world, but my health is too important to me to pay much attention to The Issue.
Especially since, I heartily believe, there are different metabolic types which just means different people have different nutritional needs. Period.
One of my daughters is very happy with a handful of noodles in a meatless sauce, with a salad on the side. Smattering of cheese on the salad and she is good to go.
Another daughter is happy with the occasional burger, lots of dairy and while some veggies are okay, she is a fruit aficianado.
Third daughter is a meat eater, who also can handle the carbs.
One son loves most vegetables, a leetle bit of meat please, and lots of starchy carbs to wash the rest of it down.
Our other son is not a fan of the vegetable in general, but he can mow down any starchy carbohydrate, and likes a good steak now and then.
Husband Alan is a meat eater, who used to handle carbs just fine, but in the last couple of years they cause indigestion and a general unhappiness.
And you already know about me.
Some people do well with one type of diet, some do well with a different diet.
So simple.
So, stop the madness. You'll know what you should be eating by how you feel. If you're invigorated, clear-headed and energized, you're probably eating the right foods. If you're not ... try making a change. Eliminate something, see how that goes. If you find a food makes you ill, don't eat it anymore.
End of debate. At least for me.
Pass the spare ribs, please.
